I am the Artistic Director of The Art Hand, a rural art school on the Waterford coast. I am also the Artistic Director of The Promenade Festival, an annual family festival held in the seaside town of Tramore which attracted 31,000 visitors in 2014.
As a Visual Artist I have worked in many different disciplines including Stained Glass, Mosaic, Digital Art, Photography and Film. These are some of the skills that I teach to Adults and Kids at The Art Hand along with my wife Miranda.
In more recent years I have been developing Art Projects in Primary Schools around the country. I have also been commissioned to draw dozens of fun art maps of picturesque places, tourist attractions, events and business relocation’s. My family and I live in one of Ireland’s most spectacular locations called The Copper Coast where we are involved in many community projects. I am the founder of the Walk from A to B, an 8 day, 144 mile walking challenge across Ireland!
I have vast Business Management experience from a business my Dad and I established called The Salvage Shop in Waterford City. We designed, built and installed full interiors made from recycled materials and stocked an impressive range of Architectural Salvage. I am often called on to develop concepts as a Business Mentor and am still a Freelance Designer of Interiors and Architecture. I have designed houses, gardens, cafes, restaurants, pubs, hair salons, beauty salons and nightclubs.
I’ve been self employed since the day I left school. I’ve never studied at an Art School but I run one! I’ve never been to Film School but I make films! I’m glad to be a self taught Artist and Entrepreneur.
I am greatly inspired by my surroundings and my emotions. Down through the years I have explored themes related to the four elements; earth, wind, fire and water and my sculptural work has a fantasy quality that always provokes a reaction. Colour is second nature to me at this stage. I like my work to tell a story, whether it is through maps, films or the collaborative process in which I love to work.
